Community Cohesion
Community Cohesion means a shared sense of belonging to the local community which respects differences, values diversity and enables different groups of people to get on well together.
The Gosport Partnership Board and thematic sub-groups have developed a local strategy for strengthening community cohesion which reflects the aspirations and needs of Borough residents.
‘A Community for Everyone’ (2.2MB) is the Partnership’s first cohesion strategy approved by the Partnership Board in March 2010 after public consultation on the draft strategy published in December 2009. An action plan (456KB) has also been developed to deliver the strategy.
The Partnership also established a Community Cohesion Fund to help develop new local projects or initiatives or enhance existing ones in 2010 which met the funding criteria and contributed to community cohesion. Eight projects were successful in receiving grant funding totaling nearly £28,000.
These were:
Brendoncare Hampshire - activities for older people
Take Off - community fete and activities at Seafield House
Courts Zone Residents Group - family fun days
Housing options team - family intervention project
Gosport Active Group for the visually impaired - trips for blind and visually impaired people
Gosport BME Network - consultation event for forces families
Gosport Community Safety Partnership - summer passport scheme which delivers free activities for 11-17 year olds during the summer holidays
Motiv8 - youth centre in Forton/Leesland
